Please verify your pin selection.
We created these NerdyKeppie exclusive designs for "Historically Queer: LGBTQIA+ Historical Figure Enamel Pins", our 2023 Kickstarter. Each pin measures 1.75 inches across and features a queer historical figure, surrounded by flowers in appropriate flag colors.
Enheduanna is the first author whose name we know - she was the high priestess of the Moon God Nanna and the daughter of Sarkon of Akkad, ruler of the Sumerian city-state of Ur. Much of her writing is hymns to the various religious figures, the best known written to Inanna, who she depicts as being able to change the gender of people easily, and says in Lady of the Largest Heart (which contains some deeply romantic feelings for the goddess from her worshipper) that “The women adorn their right side with men’s clothing,” and “The men adorn their left side with women’s clothing”, discussing the idea that it was sacred to Inanna to violate gender norms. Many trans women hold Enheduanna as a particularly beloved symbol.
Enheduanna is shown using a stylus to write on a clay tablet. Her art is based on Sumerian art of scribes, and her presentation deliberately mixes masculine and feminine features from Sumerian art. She is surrounded by lilies, sacred to Inanna, in your choice of transgender or non-binary pride colors. Her clothing contains purple, an extremely expensive dye during her lifetime, to indicate her status as the daughter of a king.
