On Flag Day of 2017, June 14th, the city of Philadelphia's Office of LGBT Affairs unveiled a new version of the gay pride flag, adding a black and brown stripe to the top of the six color rainbow pride flag that Gilbert Baker created to symbolize the people of color whose contributions to the queer rights activist community are commonly neglected. Released as a part of the More Color More Pride campaign, this novel flag was hoisted over Philadelphia City Hall for the duration of 2017’s Pride Month, and continues to be a power symbol for a more inclusive queer community.
